Board Recruitment

This is an incredibly exciting moment for the Paignton Picture House project, as it moves toward a major capital project and looks ahead to reopening as an independent cinema and community arts venue. We are looking for a number of enthusiastic individuals to join our Board of Trustees. Paignton Picture House is one of the oldest surviving cinema buildings in the world, and we have a vision to celebrate this rich architectural, historical and social heritage, while reimagining it as a dynamic, inspiring and joyful space for our community.

As a Trustee you will play a vital role in helping to shape the strategic direction of the organisation, develop the programming of the future building, building the operational team for delivery and overseeing good governance and the sustainability of the organisation.

We are particularly interested in individuals with knowledge of heritage sites (capital projects and maintenance); operation of cinema/arts venues (including catering); arts event management and programming; finance (charity finance and fundraising); and social enterprise/community wellbeing.

We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive Board and actively encourage applications from individuals from under-represented groups.

If you are interested in this role, we would love to hear from you. Please email our Project Director, Josephine Brown at josephine.brown@paigntonpicturehouse.org to request our recruitment pack.

The deadline for applications is 15 December 2023. Applicants will be informed before 22 December whether they will be invited to interview at the start of the new year.

Help shape the future of the Picture House - join our Co-design Group

Paignton Picture House - Would you like to join our Co-design Group?

Hello

Thank you for taking an interest in the future of Paignton Picture House.

As part of the redevelopment we are establishing a Co-design Group to collaborate with our architects (AOC Architecture) to ensure the cinema reflects the needs of local people.

We are looking for a group of local people - of all ages, abilities, and interests - to explore and test designs for the new cinema. This group will meet at the Picture House for six workshops during the next year, approx. every two months.  Workshops will start with initial designs, through to detailed designs and site visits during the build.

As well as contributing to the designs, each volunteer will receive an invitation to the opening night of Paignton Picture House and as a thank you for your time a £20 gift voucher.

If you are interested in joining the Co-design Group please reply to info@paigntonpicturehouse.org by Monday 26th September with as much of the following information as you are happy to share:

  • How long have you lived in the area?

  • What is your age group?

  • Do you identify as D/deaf or consider yourself to have a disability or long-term health condition?

  • What is you gender?

  • What is your sexual orientation?

  • What is your ethnic origin?

  • Contact telephone number

  • Do you have any questions for us?

With your contribution we hope to co-design a Paignton Picture House that is both a fantastic cinema and a much-loved local community resource.

If you have any questions for us to help you decide whether you would like to be part of the Co-design Group please include in your reply.

We will be aiming to notify you of the outcome of your interest by Wednesday 28th September. It is likely that the first workshop will be held in October.

If you would prefer to reply by post, or know someone who would, please use the address below:
