Make your mark on history with Stories Under the Slates. We are giving you the exciting opportunity to handwrite a special message on the back of a new slate for the auditorium roof, replacing around 2,500 that are in very poor condition.
For a suggested donation of £10 per slate, you could write a memory, a poem, a story, a message to celebrate an anniversary or in memory of a loved one, or even draw a picture.
Your slate will join a vast collection of stories held within the very fabric of the building for the next 100+ years. It will become part of a lasting legacy for Paignton.
Stories Under the Slates is more than a fundraising initiative; it’s a way to connect our past, present, and future. Every slate tells a story. Together, these stories will provide shelter for this treasured building. Be part of this incredible journey and help write the next chapter in the history of Paignton Picture House.
We will keep your slate safe until it's needed up on the roof. We will take photos of all the slates and collate them in photo books to be displayed when we reopen Paignton Picture House.

Can’t visit in person? Your can take part virtually. Simply click on the button below to make your donation and let us know what you would like your slate to say – and we’ll lovingly handwrite it for you and send you a photo!

Pop into our new temporary home at The Projection Room (11 Torbay Rd, Paignton, TQ4 6AA), opposite Paignton Picture House. We are open 10am-2pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for you to make your donation before taking a seat with your slate to hand write your special message.
