Build Update | March 2026
Work is moving forward at pace across the building, with exciting developments both structurally and inside the venue.
On the roof, a cantilevered steel frame has been installed to support the new extension and timber wall, and roof battening is now underway.
Inside, the auditorium is beginning to take shape as painting of the walls has commenced, while plastering has started on the main stairwell and first-floor foyer – key spaces that will soon welcome audiences back into the building.
Discoveries on Site
Alongside this progress, the building continues to reveal moving fragments of its past.
A recently uncovered newspaper clipping, found tucked within the masonry, features photographs of servicemen and women alongside notices placed by families searching for loved ones who were missing or wounded during the First World War.
Among them are entries for Private Arthur Gregory, Sergeant E. McCarthy, and Lance Corporal T. M. Newall – each notice a poignant reminder of lives interrupted and the personal histories held within the walls of the Picture House.
