Why do you volunteer as a Trustee for Paignton Picture House?

I have a lifelong passion for film, and studied it in higher education, dreaming of being the female equivalent to Tarantino. The closest I got to working in the film industry was for Empire Magazine as an advertising sales manager, and with film distributors as my clients, I helped new releases find their audiences.  Cinema is also in my DNA - my grandma worked as an usherette at a South London cinema in the 1950s/60s. Now that I’ve left my film/media career behind, I’m working in social and environmental impact, and my vision is for a more regenerative world, where communities thrive, are resilient, and are built to withstand economic shocks. So being part of the PPH trustee team, I’m excited to be a part of a significant community hub that brings people together, to live their stories and dreams.

What are you most looking forward to when we open?

Seeing young and older people coming together to partake in joy-giving experiences that make them feel a part of something important.

What is your favourite part of the building?

I find the detail around the staircase captivating! But the private boxes at the back of the cinema offer something different for those looking for a special or unique experience to enjoy film.
